Erroneous report --- Thursday, July 12, 2001
Readers are advised that a card owner alledged that his credit card information had been stolen from an on-line merchant doing business as The Outdoors Center. This allegation arose when Merchant 911 contacted the card holder about seeing the card infomation posted in a public newsgroup.
The company in question has contacted us, denied the allegations and provided information that leads us to believe that the card holder may well have been mistaken in his claim. In addition, The Outdoor Center claims that all information is stored encrypted as required by the card companies. That being the case, Merchant 911 retracts the original alert. We suggest that The Outdoors Center is a safe place to shop on-line.

Thanks, at least in part to Merchant 911, a credit card trading group on YahooGroups has been shut down!
On the other hand, they have already set up shop on SmartGroups.
